Giving Season is upon us!
Giving Season is here and it's the most important time of the year. We're kicking off our annual fundraising drive today, on #GivingTuesday a global day of giving that has become a valuable part of how we raise funds. Each year, on this day, we ask new and recurring donors to help us raise money for a full year of school fees for all of our students. Some of you are monthly and recurring donors, and that's of huge help to us! But our #GivingTuesday campaign is how we raise most of the funds needed to get our kids through another year of schooling- and that includes, now, the higher fees and expenses required by our college and university students.
We are changing a couple of things about our fundraising this year and have two separate campaigns you can donate to.

Our 2023 fundraisers are live! Link to them below.
In the past, our #GivingTuesday campaigns have lasted for only a day because of Facebook's matching drive, which doubled the support we received. With recent changes to their matching policies, we no longer get that support and reaching our annual goal has become harder.
So this year, we will be running our campaign for 8 weeks, from November 28th to January 28th.
Donating, sharing our fundraiser, and telling family or friends about our work is of great help! As a small project, people like you make a greater, more personal impact with the added satisfaction of knowing where your support goes and getting frequent updates on what your donations help us accomplish. The holidays are a great time to talk to someone you know about the impact of our work and help send a few more donors our way. You can download this short info sheet to share with people or post to your networks. And if you're interested in sharing more details about where donation dollars go, you can download that here. We will be hosting a 'virtual catch-up' session through zoom on December 21, 2023 where you can hear and see how well the kids are doing and what is in store for them as they reach higher levels of schooling. You'll hear directly from the students, as we share videos of them talking about their interests, successes, and education experiences! Experiences you've helped give them!
This year we have also started a University Fund for our female students. Girls in Tanzania face many gender-specific challenges in school. The fact that our girls are excelling in their high school leaving examinations and making it through to higher education is a huge deal! In Tanzania, you have to qualify through examination results to be selected for university and Wema is the first of our students to reach this major milestone. 61% of secondary school-aged (14-19) girls in Tanzania are not in school and only 1.3% of the whole population has a university degree. Getting our students to this point, but especially the girls, is an accomplishment so big (on their part) it's hard to put into words and with your continued support, they'll soon join this very small percent of students that complete university. Ensuring that girls complete any level of education is more costly, as they require specific safety and health needs that don't apply to boys. In university, these expenses include finding them safe places to live that are near their university campus for a limited walking commute and supplying them with enough menstrual products to make sure they don't have to miss classes during their periods. With this Fund, we'll raise money to continue supporting our girls in all of the different ways they need that in school, and with the added costs that come along with not just giving them an education, but also a safer present and a more promising future.
We've been fundraising for 12 years now and most of you know how much our students have thrived through education. In SO MANY WAYS, they are healthier, happier, safer, smarter, and better equipped to succeed in life. Some of you have supported us from the start and what you have helped us accomplish is immeasurable. You have made all of the difference. Our kids are grateful; their families are grateful; we are so grateful.
Thank you for the support ❤️
